BAC Local Leadership Conference Focuses on Presidential Election and Union Growth

This summer at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, BAC had another successful Local Leadership Conference. The four-day event focused on the upcoming presidential election and growing the Union through education, organizing, and membership engagement opportunities and strategies.

After being welcomed to University of Michigan by President Tim Driscoll, BAC local leaders from across the United States and Canada participated in targeted educational tracks.  “The speakers were excellent and that participation from the attendees was crucial,” Local 1 MN/ND/SD President Doug Schroeder said.

Speakers at this year’s Leadership Conference included Donna Brazile, Political Strategist & Senior Advisor at Purple Strategies and Sean McGarvey, President of the North America's Building Trades Unions (NABTU). Brazile, a crowd favorite, addressed the conference on the impact that the upcoming elections could have for future generations while McGarvey reminded BAC leaders about the importance of providing BAC members the facts about where the candidates stand on issues of importance to workers and their unions. 

Will Ragland, Vice President of Research, Advocacy and Outreach at the Center for American Progress, shared facts about Project 2025, the MAGA blueprint for a Trump presidency, and spoke to the dangers that this program presents to organized labor and all Americans.

BAC President Tim Driscoll addressed the local leadership as the conference came to the end, thanking them for their efforts during the week and affirming BAC’s support for President Elect Kamala Harris in the upcoming election.
