BAC Applauds the Biden-Harris Administration’s Action to Protect Workers from Heat Stress
[Washington, D.C.] – The International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers supports the Biden administration’s efforts to protect workers from heat stress. The newly proposed rule by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) aims to reduce worker injuries and deaths from extreme heat, one of the most dangerous impacts of climate change.
“Heat kills more people every year than floods, hurricanes and tornadoes combined,” said BAC President Tim Driscoll. “This rule will help to protect workers, particularly those without the benefit of union representation, from the dangers of heat stress by emphasizing common-sense solutions, including water, rest and shade. All workers deserve these basic protections, and the dangers of heat exposure are particularly severe in the construction industry.”
